Installation Restoration Program. Phase 1: Records Search, Williams AFB, Arizona

Abstract

During the course of this project, interviews were conducted with base personnel (past and present) familiar with past waste disposal practices; file searches were performed for past hazardous waste activities; interviews were held with state and federal agencies; and field surveys were conducted at suspected past hazardous waste activity sites. Nine sites were initially identified as potentially containing hazardous contaminants and having the potential for contaminant migration resulting from past activities. These sites have been assessed using a Hazard Assessment Rating Methodology (HARM) which takes into account factors such as site characteristics, waste characteristics, potential for contaminant migration and waste management practices. The details of the rating procedure are presented in Appendix G and the results of the assessment are given in Table 1. The rating system is designed to indicate the relative need for follow-on investigation.
