Synthesis and Properties of Phenylated Aromatic Heterocyclic Imide and Thiazole Polymers Containing Pendant Diphenylether and Diphenylsulfide Groups.

Abstract

High molecular weight aromatic heterocyclic polyphenylenes have been prepared through Diels-Alder reactions of biscyclopentadienones and heterocyclic diacetylenes. The imide and thiazole polymers with pendant phenyl groups in conjunction with either diphenylether or diphenylsulfide groups exhibit unusual solubility in aromatic hydrocarbon solvents. Introduction of the diphenylether or diphenylsulfide pendants were made via the biscyclopentadienodes. The thermal, thermaloxidative, and thermal mechanical properties of these new polymers were investigated. (Author)
