Development of Simulation Techniques for the M739 and M577 Fuzes

Abstract

This report consists of two parts. Part 1 outlines test plans for an experimental investigation to verify existing computer simulations of the M577 SSD and the M739 safing and arming mechanism. Special emphasis is placed on the determination of the influence of the variation of the escapement center distance on the number-of-turns-to-arm of these devices. Part 2 gives complete forward as well as inverse kinematic models of the two meshes of a two-pass clock gear train of an artillery S&A mechanism. In the forward model, gears no. 1 and 2 represent the drivers while in the inverse model, pinion no. 2 and the escapewheel pinion act as the input components.
