Historical Cultural Resource Survey of the Upper Souris River, North Dakota.

Abstract

An investigation and survey for historic cultural resources was made in the area to be affected by the Burlington Flood Control Project. This area lies within and adjacent to the Upper Souris River Valley in Ward and Renville Counties, North Dakota. Fourteen sites of historical or architectural significance were recorded, including four log structures, two stone structures and three original woodframe homestead dwellings. Four sites are considered worthy of immediate nomination of the National Register of Historic Places, and four others should be placed on the North Dakota Historic Sites Register. One site produced artifacts on the fur trade era, but could not be examined during the survey and must be revisited before definite evaluation and recommendations are possible.
