Design and Fabrication of FRP Truck Trailer Side Racks.

Abstract

This program was undertaken to determine and verify the technical and economic feasibility of replacing the standard plywood side racks for the Army M-871 semi-trailer with a lighter weight, lower cost, molded fibrous glass part. Finite element modeling of the structure and service loads was conducted; prototype item mechanical testing verified the finite model analysis. A trailer set (22) of prototype side racks was fabricated on contract for subsequent field testing.
