The Infantry Battalion Commander as a Boundary Role Person.

Abstract

The infantry battalion commander today occupies the most critical middle manager position in the United States Army. This stress filled position has a high probability for ambiguity and conflict. The battalion commander is not only the 'man-in-the-middle' for integrating and implementing policies and programs. He is often caught in the middle between the demands made on him by his superiors and those required and expected of him by his organization. This thesis examines the critical middle manager role of the battalion commander. (Author)
