Synthesis of Energetic Materials

Abstract

The work described in this report, consisted of two separate tasks which will be discussed in turn: (1) synthesis of energetic monomers and polymers, and (2) synthesis of polycyclic and adamantoid nitramines. Both tasks were continuations of previous work, and pre-1983 results. The principal objectives of the work are the synthesis of energetic (nitro) polymers with improved energy and physical properties, specifically polyformals derived from nitro substituted diols, and the synthesis of nitramines with high crystal density and energy-density greater than HMX.
