Organosilane Polymers. V. Hydrosilyl-modified Polycarbosilane Precursors for Silicon Carbide.

Abstract

The use of MeSiHCl2 as a comonomer in the preparation of polycarbosilanes has provided materials with improved pyrolytic yields of silicon carbide ceramic compositions. These polymers, prepared by potassium metal dechlorination of mixtures of chlorosilane monomers in tetrahydrofuran, incorporate MeSiHCl2 both as trifunctional MeSi(3-) units and as difunctional -MeSiH- units.
