Rare-Earth Ion-Host Lattice Interactions: 15. Analysis of the Spectra of Nd3+ in Gd3Sc2Ga3O12.

Abstract

The Judd-Ofelt theory of induced electric-dipole transitions is used to calculate multiplet-to-multiplet line strengths, lifetimes, and branching ratios, and line-to-line squared matrix elements between all the energy levels considered for the triply ionized lanthanides Ce3+ through Yb3+ in Gd3Sc2Ga3O12. Magnetic-dipole transitions are also calculated. The even-n Bnm used in the calculations are obtained by smoothing the phenomenological Bnm obtained by fitting experimental data on neodymium. The odd-n Anm are obtained from appropriate lattice sums. These results are compared with neodymium in several popular host materials. Detailed intensity calculations (line to line) and g-factor calculations have been performed and the results are attached in microfiche form. (Author)
