Effects of Multimodal Approaches to Providing Academic Counseling Feedback on Counseling Outcomes Using the Colorado Educational Interest Indicator.

Abstract

Due to the paucity of outcome studies related to assessing the impact of providing academic interest inventory feedback and the impact of attribute-treatment interactions on this feedback, further research is needed. Two hundred and forty subjects were assigned by group to one of three treatments. Individual (counselor and profile), Audiotape (audiotape and profile), and Profile only. In addition, a non-treatment control group was utilized. Content of treatments and amount of counselor contact were held constant for all subjects. Multimodal outcome measures were administered at pre-test, post-test (three weeks after treatment) and six months after treatment. Data was analyzed using analysis of convariance and chi square procedures. Results indicated that the treatment mode and specific subject attribute had very little effect on the measures of interest. Class membership, however, had a consistently significant impact across the measures of interest. An additional analysis provided a post hoc cost analysis of the treatments. The utility of the various treatment modes and the impact of attribute-treatment interactions are discussed with implications for future research.
