Abstract

The report presents the results of an investigation into the feasibility of constructing flood control improvements along the West and Southwest Branches of the Housatonic River in Pittsfield massachusetts. The report presents an array of alternative flood control plans and evaluates each plan for its economic feasibility and environmental acceptability. The report includes an Environmental Assessment and finding of no significant impact for a recommended plan of flood protection. The recommended plan calls for installing an auxiliary conduit under a railroad culvert on the Southwest branch and construction of a relief channel upstream from there to reduce flood flows upstream.
