Name Server Design for Distributed Systems.

Abstract

Name servers are programs that provide a uniform method of naming resources and retrieving information about those resources in the context of a distributed system. This paper examines the main issues in name server design and considers some contemporary name servers in order to classify the common goals, methods, and tradeoffs. (Author)
