Theoretical Investigation for Improvement of Ballistic Armor Blankets

Abstract

This report describes a theoretical effort using numerical code simulations and supporting test data for the evaluation of potential design concepts to advance the state-of-the-art in lightweight armor technology. The overall program emphasized the investigation of the physical mechanisms and influential material and structural parameters which affect the penetration of lightweight armor. The increased knowledge and understanding gained thereby could then be used to rationally develop improved armor designs.
