Cloud Bands Structure of Hurricane David, 1979 - A Case Study

Abstract

The nature of the spiral banding of Hurricane David immediately before, during, and after a period of intensification is examined. The tropical cyclone spiral banding features are analyzed by the Tactical Environmental Display System (TEDS) program on the NAVENVPREDRSCHFAC Satellite-data Processing and Display System (SPADS). Results show that a secondary energy maximum exists in the spiral spectrum during the hurricane's intensification period, and that the behaviors of the eye do not seem to correlate with the intensification of the storm.
