A Potentiometric Study of Chloroaluminate Equilibria in the Aluminum Chloride - 1-Methyl-2-Ethylimidazolium Chloride Ionic Liquid.

Abstract

The upper limit on the stoichiometric equilibrium constant for the tetrachloraoluminate dissociation reaction, 2RA1Cl4 yields RA12Cl7 + RCl, was investigated in the room temperature ionic liquid aluminum chloride-1-methyl-3-ethylimidazolium chloride by means of a potentiometric titration procedure. A curve fitting procedure for locating the equivalence point in these titrations is also described.
