Operation Manual: Pressure Momentum Method of Discharge Measurement.

Abstract

This instruction report describes automated procedures for conducting discharge measurements in a closed conduit with facilities for shutting off the flow at a downstream location. The method described herein is a modification, developed at the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES), of the proven Gibson (pressure-momentum) Method. The WES apparatus used in performing the tests consists of a Data Acquisition and Control System (DACS) which includes all components of the measurement, data recording, and analysis system. The control unit and microprocessor of the system are programmed to guide the operator through the complete test. This includes calibration, data acquisition, and computations, thereby providing a complete onsite analysis. This manual outlines the step-by-step procedures involved.
