Seafloor Geosciences Division: Missions, Technical Specialties, Accomplishments, and Activities, Calendar Year 1983.

Abstract

The Seafloor Geosciences Division now provides the Navy with expanded and advanced capabilities to conduct comprehensive geological, geophysical, and geotechnical investigations of the sea floor and sub-sea floor. Basic and applied research studies contribute to the fundamental knowledge of the oceanic crust and overlying sediments and the effective utilization of the sea floor. Interdisciplinary seafloor science and engineering investigations are ongoing in support of Navy problems, systems design, construction, and operations. Studies provide quantitative and qualitative description and understanding of the seafloor geological materials and environmental parameters and directed toward advancing the state-of-the-art.
