Reduction of Thyroxine and Related Compounds on Silver.

Abstract

The reduction of thyroxine (T4), liothyronine, diiodothyronine, diiodotyrosine and monoiodotyrosine has been studied at silver rotating disk electrodes in 0.10 M NaOH. All compounds give one reduction wave; the potential for the reduction of T4 on silver is about one-half volt more positive than on mercury, where it reduces stepwise. The reduction is shown to be convective diffusion-controlled at the rotating silver disk electrode.
