Primate Equilibrium Performance and Diazepam: A Behavioral Tolerance Effect.
Abstract
Well-trained rhesus macaques were tested for their ability to perform a compensatory tracking task (Primate Equilibrium Platform) under the influence of diazepam. Performance decrements were observed that depended not only on the dose, but also on the amount of prior experience of the animal with the drug. Such tolerance effects make it inappropriate to use repeated measures designs to derive dose-effects functions for performance. The impact of tolerance effects on the measurement and interpretation of drug-induced performance decrements was discussed. (Author)
