Quality Assurance Tools for Health Administrators,

Abstract

Quality assurance is any formal and systematic program to identify problems in medical care delivery, design activities to overcome the problems, and carry out followup monitoring to ensure that no new problems have been introduced and that corrective steps have been effective. Some experts describe assurance as a health care discipline and define such activities in terms of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of health care delivery. By this they mean to underscore that true quality assurance encompasses both quality in the traditional sense and cost containment, i.e., efficient use of resources. I am inclined to agree that cost and quality are inextricably linked, and in today's world efforts to control costs are posing substantial threats to quality of care for at least some members of society.
