A Geometric Database Retrieval System for SPARC (Sustainability Predictions for Army Spare Components Required for Combat).

Abstract

Characteristics of selected components of fielded US weapon systems can be retrieved with an interactive computer program. The component data includes national stock number, stockage and provisioning codes, replacement time, and damage criteria. A geometric representation of the component may be viewed interactively from any aspect (azimuth, elevation). The presented area of the component may be calculated interactively from any aspect. Components may be retrieved by specifying national stock number or name. A table of components and their characteristics is provided when a query returns more than one component. The data was compiled from SPARC (Sustainability Predictions for Army spare components Required for Combat) studies. The INGRES database system is used to store and retrieve the component data. The user interface program formats the data base queries from user commands; no database experience is necessary to use the program. (Author)
