Characterization of Transverse Tubule Vesicles Isolated from Skeletal Muscle

Abstract

The purpose of this research as originally stated was to (1.) Isolate T-tubule vesicles from rat skeletal muscle; (2.) Characterization of the protein, lipid, and carbohydrate content of T-tubule vesicles; (3.) Identify T- tubule specific proteins; (4.) Characterize the excitability of isolated T- tubule vesicles; and (5.) Investigate the interaction between T-tubule vesicles with sarcoplasmic reticulum vesicles. The overall goal is to increase our understanding of the excitation-contraction coupling process by isolating the membranes involved in the Ca release process and study their functional and physical properties.
