Doing Research that Makes a Difference

Abstract

It is argued that standard research methodologies may be fundamentally inappropriate for generating knowledge about performance in organizations that is both trustworthy and of practical use. A number of difficulties with standard methods are explicated, and some alternatives are suggested that offer the possibility of improving our scientific understanding of work performance.
