Syntheses of Polyhedranes and Polyhedral Carboranes.

Abstract

Polyhedral cage molecules containing the light elements boron or carbon at each of the vertices of the polyhedron are of considerable current interest to the Army as intermediates for the preparation of materials for diverse applications ranging from high energy propellants and explosives to thermally stable polymers. The scientific goal of this research program was the discovery and development of fundamental chemistry relevant to the synthesis of polyhedral cage molecules of importance to the Army. (Author)
