Acoustics of Shallow Water: A Status Report

Abstract

This report summarizes the present state of knowledge of acoustic propagation, including reverberation, as it applies to ASW in shallow water. It also identifies key experiments upon which this knowledge is based, and summarizes the status of environmental data bases and environmental acoustic models that would be used for acoustic forecasting or system performance prediction. Corresponding long range R&D goals, and basic issues that need to be resolved, are identified.
