Pulsed Electric Discharge Laser Technology. Electron Beam Window Foil Material.

Abstract

An experimental and theoretical study of titanium alloy foil windows is described. The alloys considered are Ti 15-3-3-3, Ti 3-2.5, and CP Ti(4). The foil thickness ranges from 0.5 mil to 1.0 mil. Tensile strength data is presented for 75 deg F and 600 deg F. High-cycle 10 to the 7th power fatigue data is presented for Ti 15-3-3 and Ti 3-2.5 at 75 deg F and 600 deg F. Crystal structures are shown for all the alloys. Measurements of the biaxial, or membrane, strength of the alloys is presented. A simulation of laser pulsed overpressure conditions is described, and the foil fatigue under these conditions is documented.
