Hazardous Chemical Discharge Prevention and Reduction.

Abstract

This is the final report on the Coast Guard's Hazardous Chemical Discharge Prevention and Reduction Project. The objective of this project was to investigate and develop improved techniques and hardware to prevent the discharge of hazardous chemicals from an endangered marine vessel, and to stop or reduce the discharge from a marine transport container which is already leaking. The end products of this research and development project are passed on to the Coast Guard National Strike Force and Captain of the Port Offices for improved hazardous chemical spill response. This is a summary report documenting a number of research project elements. The major topics of investigation include background research, hazardous chemical pumping systems, hazardous chemical emergency containers, hull rupture plugging devices and damage inspection and hardware delivery systems.
