Upgrading Flexible Infrared Waveguides.

Abstract

This study shows that the critical factor in the performance of flexible infrared waveguides is in the mode quality of the input beam and the alignment of the waveguide rather than in the fabricational tolerances. More than 98% transmission has been demonstrated through a 1-m waveguide. Also investigated was the possible extension of these waveguides to shorter wavelengths, demonstrating diffraction limited operation at 0.63 micron. (Author)
