Abstract

This study is a continuation and expansion of a series of annual surveys designed to determine the propensity of veterans to enlist in the Selected Reserve Forces (Reserve Components)1). This year the scope of the study was expanded to include veterans propensity to re-enlist in the Active Forces. The goals and objectives of the 1983 Veterans Attitude Tracking Study include determining: The level of Reserve Components and Active Forces propensity2) and the profiles of those with positive propensity, Factors that differentiate those with Reserve Components and Active Forces propensity, and the influence of work-related variables and of significant individuals on propensity. Data were collected using WATS line telephone interviews from 5 October 1983 to 18 November 1983 from 3,989 veteran men and 1,262 veteran women who had been separated from active duty after at least two years.3) Women who served in the Marine Corps were not surveyed because of their rarity in the population.
