Research in Phase Transfer Catalysis.

Abstract

Mechanisms for the hydrolysis of paratoluenesulfonyl fluoride (pTSF) in the aqueous sodium hydroxide cyclohexane two-phase system have been elucidated for different phase transfer catalysts. The mechanism for the hydrolysis is composite; it involves both interfacial and phase transfer catalysis. Experimental conditions determine the mechanism(s) which prevails. (Author)
