Modulational Instability of Lower Hybrid Waves,

Abstract

This document investigates the excitation of a purely growing modulational mode together with two lower hybrid sidebands by a lower hybrid pump. The condition has been derived. The growth rate of the instability is found to be quite large for the power density employed in the lower hybrid heating experiments in large tokamaks.
