Review of Specific Chemical Interactions for Hydrazine Analysis and Proposed Adaptation for Microsensor Chemical Detection

Abstract

This report reviews the analytical chemistry of hydrazine and its methyl derivatives. The purpose is to develop chemical approaches for synthesis of hydrazine vapor specific coatings for chemical microsensors. Section 1 discusses basic hydrazine chemistry relevant to the analytical reactions presented in subsequent sections and to the coating requirements for chemical microsensors. Sections 2, 3, 4 and 5 discuss specific analytical hydrazine reactions which have been classified as aldehyde or ketone condensations, aromatic nucleophilic displacements, organic compound or metal ion reductions and organic dye interactions respectively. Section 6 presents chemical approaches suggested for microsensor coatings. Originator-supplied keywords include: Hydrazine detection, Reactive dyes, Chemical microsensor, Phthalocyanine, Colorimetric, and Reagents.
