Optimisation of the Thermoelectric Figure of Merit in Fine Grained Semiconductor Materials Based upon Lead Telluride.

Abstract

This report presents the results of calculations of the effect of a multivalley energy band structure on the thermoelectric figure of merit. It is concluded that intervalley scattering significantly reduces the beneficial effect of a multivalley energy band structure. At optimum doping intervalley scattering reduces the ratio by approximately 25%.
