Aerodynamic Improvements by Discrete Wing Tip Jets.

Abstract

The effects of applying discrete wing tip jets on a rectangular wing and the generated flow field have been studied. Analysis included low speed wing tunnel testing, water tunnel testing and analytical modeling. Wing tip jet parameters investigated included number of jets, jet direction, shape of jets, and blowing coefficients. Tailoring of jet parameters to optimize planform circulation and flow separation were included. Flow interactions of the discrete tip jets with wing vorticies were successfully visualized with water tunnel techniques. (Author)
