Modeling and Simulation of a Fin Actuation System.

Abstract

A study was begun to model and simulate a missile fin actuation system driven by a brushless dc motor. This report describes preliminary results in which the motor, drive-train and load were modeled using the usual linear descriptions. Simulation of system response to step and frequency inputs was accomplished using the Continuous System Modeling Program. Initial qualitative results show that the model successfully predicts the effects expected from variations in load and damping. Further evaluation of the model and possible refinements will require the availability of test data.
