A New Model for Thin Plates with Rapidly Varying Thickness. III. Comparison of Different Scalings.

Abstract

This work continues a series of papers on the bending of thin symmetric plates with rapidly varying thickness. The authors compare the relative strengths for the three different choices of scalings. In the case of an isotropic material and one family of stiffeners, our results are complete. For other geometries and/or anisotropic materials, more work (including computations) is still needed. Additional keywords: mathematical models, variational principles, thickness, flat plate models. (Author).
