Scour About a Single, Cylindrical Pile due to Random Waves and Current.

Abstract

This thesis uses an empirical approach to investigate the scouring effects that various currents and random waves have on a single cylindrical pile. Results from laboratory experiments are presented in graphical form depicting relationships between pertinent dimensionless parameters which were developed through a dimensional analysis. These results were then compared to results compiled in previous studies that investigated scour due to currents and monochromatic waves in order to determine if the irregularity of the wave train is significant in the study of scour.
