Abstract

On October 2, 1981, the President announced his decision to cancel the M-X Multiple Protective Shelter (MPS) basing system. The Air Force was, at that time, working to prepare a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the MPS site selection process. This preliminary FEIS captures the environmental data and the analysis in the document that was nearing completion when the President decided to deploy the M-X system in a different manner. Areas studied included Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Texas. Topics treated in this volume include: Rural Land Use--Irrigated croplands, Grazing, Ranch and Farm houses; Native Americans--Cultural resources, Water Accessibility and Agricultural land use, and Socioeconomic; Pallontological, Archaeological and historical resources, Recreation; Water quality, Other wildlife; Aquatic species; Significant natural areas; Noise management; Solid waste management; Wastewater management; Hazardous waste management; Public health concerns; and Visual resources.
