Deployment Area Selection and Land Withdrawal/Acquisition. M-X/MPS (M-X/Multiple Protective Shelter) Environmental Technical Report. Planning by the Air Force and Others.

Abstract

The Air Force environmental planning function is designed to implement Department of Defense and Air Force policies and programs to (1) protect and improve the broad area natural resources of air, water, and land; (2) prevent, abate and control deterioration or pollution of the environment; and (3) conserve and effectively utilize soil, water, vegetation, fish and wildlife, and man-made resources. There was a desire on the part of many commentors to see a much greater level of detail than that which appeared in the DEIS (draft environmental impact statement) or is in the FEIS (final environmental impact statement). Other than those instances where the detail requested is beyond any intended level of analysis, there are a series of present and future planning efforts can generally be categorized as Air Force initiated planning and planning generated by federal agencies other than the Air Force as well as planning initiated by local and state governments and Indian tribes. The following sections of this volume will address the nature of these programs and highlight the levels of effort encompassed within specific plans.
