Surface Scattering,

Abstract

For many practical purposes we are interested in the scattering of sound produced by an irregular interface separating two homogenous media. Here we present a method of treating the problem when the interface is a smooth one which has been slightly perturbed. This is, of course, a problem which has attracted much attention in the literature. In this note a form of perturbation theory is developed which shows how a straightforward, if tedious, calculation of higher order terms can be made. This report makes an initial effort in trying to solve the problem of predicting scattering from an irregular interface between two homogeneous but different media (e.g. air-water, water-ocean bottom). This work is limited to a single frequency and uses a form of Green's Theorem. Originator-Supplied keywords include: Green's theorem; Scattering from a surface; Interface of Homogeneous Media.
