Assessing the Behavior and Performance of Teams in Organizations: The Case of Air Transport Crews.

Abstract

This report examines methodological and conceptual issues in assessing the behavior and performance effectiveness of work teams in organizations. The intent is to identify issues of general applicability by focussing in detail on problems in assessing crews that fly jet transports for scheduled airlines. Special attention is given to the historical, political, and organizational context within which assessment takes place, and to special challenges that arise when teams (rather than individuals) are assessed.
