Causeway Ferry Motion in Irregular Seaways.

Abstract

The causeway ferry is used to transport offloaded cargo from a ship via a causeway platform facility to the shore. The operation of the causeway ferry depends on its performance in irregular seaways. This effort evaluated and modified an analytical model for predicting causeway ferry motion responses. Model tests of a four-section causeway ferry were conducted to verify the applicability of the theory. The results suggest that the theory predicts motion reponse functions with acceptable accuracy. The practical application of the theory shows a 90% probability of maintaining a dry deck while operating in a sea state 3. Further investigations show a 98% probability of a dry deck while operating in a sea state 2. Keywords include: Random seaway, Design curves, Numerical program, and Model testing.
