Design, Development and Testing of a Prototype Digital Ride Control System for Surface Effect Ships. Part 8. Test on XR-1E SES.

Abstract

The prototype digital ride control system (RCS) developed by Maritime Dynamics was installed and tested on the 26-ton XR-1E SES. Open and closed loop tests were conducted. Stability of the digital controller was compared with that of the experimental analog RCS developed for the XR-1D SES. Closed loop test data was used to make RCS performance predictions for the USCG Sea Bird Class SES. A tradeoff study was performed and a candidate RCS configuration was selected for the Sea Bird Class SES. A preliminary design was developed for the RCS configuration identified as most desirable.
