Abstract
This report summarizes the results of the Artificial Intelligence and Bionics Workshop, hosted by Naval Ocean Systems Center, and sponsored by the Office of Naval Research. The goal of the workshop as stated in the overview that was sent to the participants is summarized as follows: This workshop will investigate possible applications of current knowledge of animal sensory, cognitive and motor abilities to discover new directions or issues in the continuing effort to build intelligent systems. It has been organized to foster a productive dialogue between scholars in artificial intelligence and biological intelligence, including such areas as neurophysiology, sensory processes, information capture and transfer, cognitive processing and biomechanical implementation. Our effort will be to explore useful biological models in the further development of artificial intelligence. Originator-supplied key words include: Artificial intelligence, Bionics, Biomechanics, Neurophysiology, Cognitive processes, Sensors.
