An Analysis of Gunner Shot Selections and Performance against a Simulated Moving Target.

Abstract

This thesis presents an analytical method for examining a target's motion history to investigate those characteristics of target motion which a trained gunner keys on when selecting shots. Using this methodology, a target motion history is examined and the criteria which two trained gunners use to pick shots are described and compared. The hit performance of each gunner is then modeled establishing a relationship between the target's motion and hit performance for these two gunners. Key words include: Gunnery, target motion, probability of hit.
