A Novel Polymeric Organosilazane Precursor to Si3N4/SiC Ceramics.

Abstract

The action of basic catalysts such as KH on the ammonolysis product of CH3SiHCl2,CH3SiHNHx, results in formation of polysilazanes of intermediate molecular weight (800-2000). Pyrolysis of these polysilazanes gives ceramic materials, which appear to be mixtures pf Si3N4, SiC and C, in yields of 80-85%. Preliminary experiments aimed at the preparation of ceramic bars, fibers and powder composites are described.
