Very Large Least Squares Problems and Supercomputers,

Abstract

The goals of the workshop were: (a) to provide an interchange between different groups working on very large least squares problems, (b) to provide an interchange between computer scientists involved with supercomputer systems and scientists using supercomputers and, (c) to assess the state of the art in solving very large least squares problems. Twelve sources of very large least squares problems were identified the ones principally involved in the discussions were: Geodetic surveys; Photogrammetry; Molecular structures; Gravity field of the earth; and Partial differential equations.
