Long Range Electro-Optical Reconnaissance System

Abstract

This report describes the evolution of electro-optical techniques required to extract useful imagery from haze-occuled low object contrast scenery. The problem of generating sufficient signal electrons (and corresponding signal-to-noise ratios) so as to enable D.C. background haze subtraction and amplification of useful A.C. inter-pixel signal components is stated. The CCD-TDI photosensor with a (TAP) selectable number of integrations is presented as a viable solution to the problem of noise-limited image enhancement of long range targets in which the object contrast level is both visually and photographically undetectable.
