1979 Reserve Force Studies Surveys: Weighting the Survey Data.

Abstract

Provides statistical weights for data collected in the 1979 Reserve Force Studies Surveys. Data were collected from approximately 400 Army National Guard and Army Selected Reserve Units. Separate survey instruments were administered to E-1 to E-4 personnel, E-5 to E-9 personnel, unit commanders, and unit technicians. This Note reports response rates for the surveys and the weighting scheme developed to account for both sample stratification and survey nonresponse. The weights allow for improved statistical estimation for those using the survey data. The Note also summarizes the purpose of the surveys and the applicability of the survey data to reserve research areas, including personnel accession and retention, attrition, unit location, and unit readiness. Originator supplied keywords include: Army personnel; Military reserves; and Statistical analysis.
