US Army Human Engineering Laboratory Communications Survey-A Pilot Study (HELCOMS-PS).

Abstract

Voice radio traffic was collected at National Training Center exercises in Ft. Irwin, CA. The traffic consisted of five one-hour samples covering peak-period traffic on several command nets. This traffic underwent a detailed exploratory analysis and identified several human performance issues which will be subjected to further evaluation in a follow-on effort. Sample issues covered in this report include expected wait time, transmission rates, station utilization factor, message categorization, interference, and dialog patterns. Keywords include: Communications and Traffic Safety.
